WOMEN IN PEACE AND SECURITY PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO NIGER NAWOJ

The Women in Peace and Security Initiative has paid a courtesy visit to the leadership of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Niger State Chapter, as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration and promote peace, security and women’s participation in development.


In a statement by
Assistant secretary NAWOJ Aisha Babadoko, the delegation was led by the President of Women in Peace and Security, Mrs. Justina Yakubu, and included the FOMWAN Representative and the Chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Niger State Chapter.

The delegation was received by the Chairperson of NAWOJ, Niger State Chapter, Dr. Asabe Sule Garba, alongside other members of the NAWOJ Executive Council.

Speaking during the visit, Mrs. Justina Yakubu said the visit was aimed at fostering stronger relationships with women-focused organisations and exploring areas of collaboration, particularly in promoting peace, security, women’s rights and greater participation of women in decision-making processes.

She stressed the importance of women working together across professional and civil society platforms to address issues affecting women and communities, noting that women have important roles to play in peacebuilding, conflict prevention and sustainable development.

In her response, the NAWOJ Chairperson, Dr. Asabe Sule Garba, appreciated the delegation for the visit and expressed the association’s readiness to collaborate with Women in Peace and Security and other women-focused organisations on programmes that advance the interests of women and society.

Dr. Garba noted that journalists have a significant role to play in creating awareness, amplifying women’s voices and promoting peaceful coexistence through responsible and ethical reporting.

She assured the delegation of NAWOJ’s support for initiatives that promote peace, women’s empowerment, gender equality and community development.

The visit ended with a commitment by both sides to explore areas of partnership and strengthen networking among women-led organisations in Niger State.
