NOA CALLS FOR CALM FOLLOWING DEATHS OF SUSPECTED ILLEGAL MINERS IN NSCDC CUSTODY

The National Orientation Agency, NOA, Niger State Directorate, has called on residents of Minna and the people of Niger State to remain calm and peaceful following the reported deaths of suspected illegal miners who were detained by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.

In a statement signed by the Director Niger State Directorate Malam Yahaya Ibrahim Gbongbo the incident followed an enforcement operation conducted by the NSCDC on the fifteenth and sixteenth of September, twenty twenty-six, around the M.I. Wushishi and Lukota Village axis of Minna, as part of efforts to enforce the Niger State Government’s directive against illegal mining activities.

The Agency particularly appeals to youths and residents to remain calm and avoid any action capable of further escalating the situation.

Residents are advised not to engage in violent protests, destruction of property or confrontation with security personnel and innocent members of the public.

The public is also urged to refrain from spreading unverified information concerning the incident.

The National Orientation Agency calls on residents to allow the relevant authorities to conduct appropriate medical and investigative processes to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

The Agency also urges traditional rulers, religious leaders, community leaders and youth leaders to intensify dialogue and peace-building efforts in their communities.
